How Many Kings

OK. So, I know I haven't posted in a while, and sorry!! BUT, this song is pretty awesome :)

This is a Christmas song (brand new to me) that Ms. Leah is choreographing a dance to for the Christmas program at Mt. Zion. It's a great story-song with an underlying theme--only God (or Jesus, not really sure) has sacrificed everything to come down and save us. Wow! That impresses me.
And, more than that, I can't get the song out of my head. For me, it's one of those songs I can put on repeat and listen to over and over and over again. It's that good :)

How Many Kings
~Downhere

Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe, after all we've projected,
A child in a manger?
Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliest hero, wrapped in his mother's shawl -
Just a child -
Is this who we've waited for? 'cause...

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

Bringing our gifts for the newborn Savior
All that we have, whether costly or meek
Because we believe.
Gold for his honor, and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he will suffer
Do you believe?
Is this who we've waited for?

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me

All for me...
All for you...

What a Might God We Serve

A childrens' tune, no doubt. But I still woke up with this song on my lips. It reminded me that we live to serve God, not others. Granted, we're still under other leaders in authority over us, but God put those people there for a reason. Serving them serves God.
And everyone serves God. No matter what. We are His creation, so we serve him by being alive. Isn't that great? But He wants active serving, too. He wants us bowing down before Him.

What a Mighty God We Serve

What a mighty God we serve,
What a mighty God we serve
Angels bow before Him,
Heaven and Earth adore him,
What a mighty God we serve.

Mighty to Save

Some people might read that and say "Huh? What in the world does that mean??" Well, I think it means something different to everyone. To me, this song glorifies the mightiness of God and His perfect love for us. He made us exactly who He wanted us to be, in His perfect image, even with all our flaws. He wants us to come to Him with those flaws, and ask Him to take over our life. That's pretty darn scary. Total surrender. That means I would live my whole life the way God wants me to, not the way I want to.
My favorite part about this song is the very last chorus Laura sings. She makes it personal. "You can move the mountains...You rose and conquered the grave..." It makes it seem like this is an actual person we're talking about, not just an invisible being hanging out somewhere in the sky. Is that hard to wrap your brain around? It is for me. God is as big or as small as He needs to be, and His Son was fully human, and fully God. Wow. That's insanely cool.

Mighty to Save
~Laura Story

Everyone needs compassion
A love that's never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
A kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations

Savior
He can move the mountains
My God is Mighty to save
He is Mighty to save
Forever
Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender
Yes I surrender

Savior
He can move the mountains
My God is Mighty to save
He is Mighty to save
Forever
Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus
Shine your light and let the whole world see
We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus

Savior
You can move the mountains
God You are mighty to save
You are mighty to save
Forever
Author of salvation
You rose and conquered the grave
Yes You conquered the grave

Background of the Blog

So, I went to my mom's Emmaus team party last night. It was pretty awesome--I got to see some people I know, meet some people I don't know, and just have an altogether good time with people whose interests are similar to mine.

As kind of a kickoff to the party, we had some praise and worship time. The song that hit me the most was How Can I Keep From Singing? That song has just kinda stuck with me, because the lyrics are so personal.

How Can I Keep From Singing?
~Chris Tomlin
There is an endless song
Echoes in my soul
I hear the music ring
And though the storms may come
I am holding on
To the rock I cling

How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love
How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing

I will lift my eyes
In the darkest night
For I know my Savior lives
And I will walk with You
Knowing You'll see me through
And sing the songs You give

How can I keep from singing your praise?
How can I ever say enough,
How amazing is your love?
How can I keep from shouting your name?
I know i am loved by the king,
And it makes my heart want to sing

I can sing in the troubled times
Sing when I win
I can sing when I lose my step
And fall down again
I can sing 'cause You pick me up
Sing 'cause You're there
I can sing 'cause You hear me, Lord
When I call to You in prayer
I can sing with my last breath
Sing for I know
That I'll sing with the angels
And the saints around the throne

How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love
How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart
I am loved by the king and it makes my heart
I am loved by the king and it makes my heart
Want to sing

I can sing

And this song hit me, because that's how I feel a lot. Like I have a song, and I just want to sing it at the top of my lungs. It doesn't matter what song, I just want to sing. And I think that pleases God, because He's the One who gave me my voice. So doesn't it stand to reason that He would love to hear it?

God gives each and every one of us a gift, and He absolutely loves it when we use it.

--Every week, I'm going to try and find a song that has touched me in some way. Almost like a weekly song devotion. It won't necessarily be a Christian song, and it might not be well known. But I'll include the lyrics, who wrote it, and maybe even a link of where you can listen to it.
